Palmier is a women's luxury ready-to-wear collection imbued with artful architecture and a sense of ease. Each season is an exploration of romantic color palettes, hand-painted prints, and tactile elements. Founded in 2020 by Ling Arnold, the daughter of a multi-disciplinary painter, the collection plays with feminine proportions and nuanced finishes that lend each piece soulful spontaneity. Informed by the laid-back glamor of the French Riviera that served as a backdrop to some of Arnold’s favorite artists, Palmier is a poetic study of graceful femininity.

Family Ties

Born in Nanjing, China, Arnold attended high school in France and university in the United States. Her mother’s classically timeless style stood out as fashion-forward in 1990’s China. Some of Arnold’s earliest childhood memories are of her mother wearing breezy dresses rendered in watercolor prints. She has often turned to those moments when seeking inspiration for her own designs. Her father, a classically trained painter and digital filmmaker has also fueled a passion for artistic pursuits in Arnold.

Local Craftsmen

Arnold produces her collections in New York focusing on sophisticated craftsmanship, artistry and the close relationships she has built with the production partners. Working with local talent and upholding these values has become a core value of the brand.

Shades & Shapes

Every collection by Arnold begins with a thoughtful reflection on colors and textures, conjuring a distinct mood and emotion. Then dramatic silhouettes begin to take shape. Inspired by the Fauvist paintings by Henri Matisse and his masterful use of color, Arnold hand-paints her own prints or collaborates with Milan-based textile artists. Carefully considered proportions of her garments emphasize the feminine form and materials sourced from heritage European mills provide tactile elements.

“I approach fashion from an artistic point of view. Whether it’s the brush strokes visible in a hand-painted print, sculptural draping detail on a dress, or the frayed asymmetrical finishes—these ‘imperfections’ give every piece a soul.”

– LING ARNOLD
